The Works Of The Flesh Verses Spirit
By David J. Stewart | November 2015
Galatians 25:19-25, “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”
I enjoy watching history documentaries, learning about early civilizations up until modern times. I have an interest in history in general, as it has been said, “history is HIS-STORY!” (God's story). The future is uncharted waters, but hindsight is 20/20. It is much easier to look back over history and realize the mistakes of humanity, than it is to plan ahead for an uncertain future.
The Cruelty Of Rome's Ruling Elite
I am shocked as I study history, of the inhumane atrocities that mankind has done to one another. In some cases, thousands of soldiers had their eyes poked-out by the conquering army. Julius Caesar of Rome and his skilled army, when they conquered the Germanic tribes, gave the conquered men, women and children as slaves to the triumphant men of his army (as personal property to do with with as they pleased).
I was shocked when I read “KILLING JESUS” by Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard, where the life of Tiberius is documented. TIBERIUS WAS A SICKO MONSTER!!! Here is a somewhat lengthy quote from chapter 7 of “KILLING JESUS,” titled, “VILLA JOVIS CAPRI” . . .
Far away from GALILEE, THE ROMAN WHO CONSIDERED HIMSELF to be the stepson of god is on the move. Life in Rome has been hard on Tiberius Julius Caesar Augustus—or so he thinks. So he has exiled himself to this mountaintop island fortress on Capri to live out his days in pleasure and privacy. Now he reclines in his bedroom as nude handmaidens and young boys copulate in front of him. They were handpicked for their beauty and brought from the far-flung reaches of the Roman Empire against their will to perform erotic sexual acts for “the old goat,” as the sixty-eight-year-old Tiberius is called behind his back. Some days the children might be asked to dress like Pans and nymphs, then flit about the royal garden, offering themselves to one another and to the emperor's invited guests.
Tonight the orgiasts remain inside this sprawling palace with its marble floors, erotic statues, works of art, and stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea far below. In case the performances of the young girls and boys ordered to submit to the jaded, pock-marked emperor lack imagination, explicit sex manuals from Egypt are on hand for instruction.
The young performers can't help but sneak a glance at Tiberius. If all goes well, he will join in, perhaps selecting one of the teenaged boys or girls for himself. But if they fail, and if Tiberius doesn't find their contortions stimulating, the emperor will not simply leave the room. He will do something far worse. There is a good chance he will hurl their bodies off “Tiberius Leap,” the thousand-foot cliff alongside the palace. From that height, it doesn't matter if a person lands in the sea or on the rocks jutting out into the Gulf of Naples. There is no surviving the fall.
Which is just as Tiberius designed it. Perversely, just as he enjoys sex and watching others have sex, he also finds delight in watching his victims scream for their lives.
The truth is, almost all of tonight's players will suffer the terrifying fate of being thrown off the cliff. Tiberius cannot abide the thought of rumors about his debauchery making their way back to Rome. The best way to keep these children silent is to kill them after he uses them.
But the young players don't know this. They actually believe they will one day make it out of Villa Jovis alive and return home to their villages. So they perform as if their lives depend upon it, succumbing to any whim or want of the vile Tiberius.
Meanwhile, the aging emperor—a man who once knew true love and happiness—reclines on a pile of pillows, a cup of wine always within reach, his eyes glazed and his skin mottled from eczema and boils. Tiberius is a man without a conscience.

If that's not shocking enough, here's what pages 99-100 says about Tiberius . . .
Antipas has named the new city in honor of the Roman emperor who succeeded the late Caesar Augustus twelve years ago. Tiberius was once a great general, defending Rome from Germanic barbarians. But a lifetime of personal sadness has turned him into a horrible man. Tiberius knows no boundaries. One of his amusements is swimming with handpicked “tiddlers,” naked young boys whose job is to chase him around the imperial pool and nibble between Tiberius's legs.
The swimming sessions are the least of the emperor's considerable depravities, but Antipas knows better than to pass moral judgment. Even after more than two decades on the throne, he rules solely at the pleasure of Rome. And indeed Antipas has his own depraved resume. He has divorced his own wife and married that of his brother, an act of abomination to the Jewish people
So it is that even as he began making plans to kill John the Baptist—a man whose only crime is an outspoken passion for the coming of the Lord—Antipas named the capital city of a devout Jewish province after a sixty-eight-year-old pagan who hosts orgies in his private villa and dispatches his enemies by throwing them off a thousand-foot cliff.

Without Jesus Christ anyone can become a monster! Do you think wicked men like Tiberius aren't lurking in high positions of power around the
world? Think again! Have you ever heard about the infamous BOHEMIAN
GROVE! How about the rape of little boys from BOYS
TOWN in Nebraska by high-power
politicians in Washington D.C.! It was all exposed publicly, but as many angry
Americans quickly learned, The White House is above the law.
Japanese Unit 731 Torture Labs
In World War II, Japan captured tens-of-thousands of Chinese people, subjecting them to inhumane experiments in their Unit 731 Laboratories. Women were raped and their legs sewn together until pregnancy, to see what happened. Victims had their fingers, arms, feet, legs and bodies submerged into liquid nitrogen, instantly solidifying them, and then having their body parts chipped off with a hammer. Yes, this happened! In exchange for sharing the gory details of their ungodly experimentation on humans, the United States government overlooked the matter. The Japanese put Chinese into small cages, injecting gasoline and biological agents into their veins, tormenting them to death. Some of the victims were dissected while they were still alive and conscious on the exam table. Victim's arms and legs were amputated and reattached to the other side of their body to see what happened. Babies and children were also experimented on, transfused with the blood of animals...
The scientists wanted to learn the limits of the human body, and, so, conducted a number of tests on their victim’s arms and legs. Sometimes, the limbs were frozen and thawed in order to study how frostbite and gangrene developed. At other times, limbs were cut off and sewn back onto the other side of the body. In a few experiments, when the limbs were removed, researchers just observed the loss of blood.
...Many victims had all or part of their organs removed, and some even had organs detached, then re-attached, in unique ways nature never intended. Experiments were also conducted with high pressure, poisonous chemical exposure, centrifuges, burning, blood infusions from animals, burying and x-rays. Of course, since the purpose of these tests was to determine how much a body could withstand, the experiments would continue until the test subject was dead.
It is not known how many victims fell prey to these types of tests. However, estimates of the deaths at Pingfang (called by some the Auschwitz of the East) range from 3,000 to 12,000. Victims included women and men, as well as children and babies.SOURCE: Today I Found Out, WWII Horror Files: Unit 731; July 26, 2013
Mankind has a very long ugly history of hating, oppressing, raping and murdering one another...
Can't we all just get along? The answer is NO, not without divine intervention. God is love, the only source of genuine true, lasting, love; thus, without becoming a born-again Christian and having God's Holy Spirit indwelling one's body, a person cannot disperse God's unconditional love to others. Unsaved people can still love to some degree, but it is not the love of God shed abroad in their heart by the Holy Spirit. Romans 5:5, “And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” This is why the world is so ugly, miserable and messed up, because Satan is the spiritual father of every unsaved person, because men reject Jesus Christ as their personal Savior, because they love their sins (John 3:20).
The Systematic Rape Of Albanians By Serbian Militants
During the Yugoslavian nightmare in the 1990's, in which 225,000 Albanians were slaughtered and tens-of-thousands brutally raped by rape gangs, the United Nations sat back and did NOTHING! Why do Croatia and Serbia hate each other??? Ironically the monstrous Serbs mostly profess to be Protestant Christians, but behave like demons.
Bosnian/Albanian war in the early 1990's, Serb camps were used as rape camps to systematically rape Kosovo's women and young girls, many of whom became pregnant by the raping soldiers. Systematic meaning the females were raped on a scheduled basis, day-and-night, by soldiers waiting their turn.
...an estimated 20,000 women and girls who were subjected to organized gang-rapes by Serbian and Yugoslav forces during the 16-month Kosovo War. Human Rights Watch said the rapes — carried out mainly by paramilitary forces, often in view of the victims' families — were “used deliberately as an instrument to terrorize the civilian population.” (Kosovar militants were also accused of rape, although the number of such cases is believed to be far lower.)
In Kosovo, as in Bosnia-Herzegovina — where as many as 40,000 mainly Muslim women were systematically raped by Bosnian Serb forces — the object was humiliation and social stigma.SOURCE: Radio Free Europe - Radio Liberty, How Long Can You Keep A Secret? This is the ugliness of the world's reality friend! As our text passage teaches from Galatians 5:19-21, these are “THE WORKS OF THE FLESH”!!! This is how human nature behaves without God's Holy Spirit. Perhaps now you see the importance of the new birth, that is, being BORN-AGAIN, so that the “FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT” (i.e., the Holy Spirit) will be present in a person's life. You can only receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit by being born into God's family, by believing the Gospel as a sinner.
The Works of The Holy Spirit
Galatians 5:22-26, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.”
Carefully notice that the word “fruit” is singular. That is, you don't get love and then pursue patience. You don't acquire patience and then seek gentleness. You get them all at the same time, by the Spirit of God, Who is “holy.” Notice verse 25, which says “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” To live in the Spirit (capital S) means to be saved, being indwelt by the Holy Spirit. But as a believer we have a choice at any given time to either walk in that Spirit (the new man), or walk in the flesh (the old man). The new man is Jesus Christ. In Romans 8:9 the Holy Spirit is called “the Spirit of Christ.”
Thus, discipleship and salvation are two different things. We get saved simply by receiving the Gospel by faith (Galatians 3:2). Salvation is a free gift that costs us nothing (Ephesians 2:8-9), but discipleship will cost us everything. Luke 14:33, “So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.” This Scripture speaks of discipleship, not salvation. Salvation depends upon God's faithfulness, but discipleship depends upon man's faithfulness. Romans 12:1-2 pleads with every believer to become a discipleship, following their Savior, “which is your reasonable service” (Romans 12:1). 1st Corinthians 6:20, “For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's”
When a person repents (a change of mind) from unbelief and believes the Gospel, they are saved. That new believer's character is exactly the same. Nothing has changed about that person. The difference is that the Holy Spirit has moved inside their body to live (Romans 8:9; 1st Corinthians 3:16-17; 1st John 3:24). Reforming one's ways is not a requirement to receive the gift of eternal life. God makes the changes, as the Holy Spirit works in the soul of a new believer (Hebrews 12:6-8). The Gospel is being corrupted everywhere these days, wrestled by unlearned men to agree with Roman Catholicism's errant view of repentance as a change of behavior. Religion produces religious reformation, not the new birth by the Holy Spirit of God.
2nd Corinthians 7:10, “For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.” Paul is not saying that sorrow (a feeling) is required for salvation; but rather, he is saying that godly sadness about sin leads to changing one's mind, compelling them to believe the Gospel to be saved. Repentance still means “a change of mind” (Greek: Metanoia) in 2nd Corinthians 7:10. Many people, after sin ruins their life, change their mind and turn to the Gospel by faith. Repentance is not feeling sorry for your sins. Repentance is seeing yourself as a guilty sinner in the eyes of a holy God (Romans 3:19). Many preachers wrongly try to use 2nd Corinthians 7:10 to say that a person must “turn away from sins” to be saved, but the Bible doesn't say that. The Bible says that being sad because of sin leads a person to “repent” (think differently), so that they get saved. Thus, it is not that a person must “turn from sins” to be saved; but rather, the sorrow which sin brings often causes a person to think differently (repent) and turn to Jesus Christ to be saved.
In Acts 20:21, we read what we are supposed to repent (think differently) about . . . “Repentance toward God.” Acts 20:21, “Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.” John 3:20 says, “For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.” The heathen unsaved man wants nothing to do with a holy God. Therefore, when a person “repents,” they now acknowledge them self as a guilty sinner in the eyes of a holy God. Repentance is not a change of attitude, which involves behavioral changes as well.
"Repentance is the recognition of my sinnership—the owning before God that I am as vile as He has declared me to be in His holy Word."
SOURCE: Except Ye Repent, by Dr. Harry Ironside, chapter 3Mankind's history is filled with horrific crimes against each other. Man's history of intense hatred, gang rape, inhumane torture, mass murder, savagery and barbarian behavior is all too well documented. Without Jesus Christ anyone can become a real monster!!! Reformation is not the answer. Education is not the answer. Legislation is not the answer. Rehabilitation is not the answer. REGENERATION is the answer! Christ emphatically said, “Ye must be born again” (John 3:3). END
