A Backslidden Christian Cannot Go To Hell
By David J. Stewart | October 2018
I was making my routine rounds tonight at “Anderson1611” YouTube channel, one of my favorite sources of truth! I love Pastor Anderson because of his boldness and soulwinning zeal. I don't agree with everything he preaches, but he comes 100% closer to being right than 95% of cowardly pastors and churches today (fun centers). Anyway, one of the videos I saw is titled, “Pastor Manny Perry Takes Out The Trash.”
Who could resist a title like that? So I watched the video clip. I couldn't understand what Pastor Perry said, why he was harsh with the visiting song leader from the Great Harvest Baptist Church in New York. So I went to visit the church's website and to see exactly what they believe and was shocked. They actually teach that a saved person who lives in sin will burn in the Lake of Fire temporarily! Unbelievable! If that were true, we'd all go straight to Hell when we die!
Here is what their website says...
“We believe that the unsaved will spend eternity being tormented in a literal hell when they die, and will eventually be thrown in the Lake of Fire. We also believe that those who are saved but do not keep the commandments of God will have a temporary part in the lake of fire.”
After learning what the issue is about, I went back to listen to the video and figured out clearly what Pastor Manny Perry is saying...
“And for some of you who wonder what I'm talking about, his unqualified pastor teaches, that, ah, a saved person can go to the Lake of Fire!”
I agree 100% with Pastor Perry, because he agrees 100% with God's Word. Romans 3:4, “God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.” If what a preacher teaches and preaches is in agreement with God's Word, then he will be justified IN HIS WORDS on judgment day. The believer is justified BY FAITH when they are saved. That is not what Romans 3:4 is talking about. The Bible here is talking about the words that come out of our mouth (or the text that we type with our fingers), to teach others.
Truthfully, Pastor Tyler J. Doka of the Great Harvest Baptist Church is a spiritually dangerous false prophet, who teaches that believers will go to Hell for awhile if they live in sin. In sharp contrast, the Holy Bible teaches in Revelation 20:6, “Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.” The second death (Hell) has “NO POWER” on the child of God. The Bible is very clear!
There is No Condemnation to Them That Are in Christ Jesus
Hell is only for the Devil and his angels, and all humanity who die in their sins without Jesus Christ as their Savior! And again we read in Romans 8:1, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” The Bible plainly teaches that there is “no condemnation” to those who place their trust in Christ Jesus...
Romans 8:1, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”
A man once wrote to me and tried to use this Scripture to justify Lordship Salvation (which is the false teaching that faith alone is insufficient to save a person; works must also be present as proof of a repentant heart). The man claimed that there is no condemnation only to those who walk after the Spirit, saying that to be saved a person must also live a faithful Christian life of obedience to all the Scriptures; but he is very wrong in his understanding of the Bible. Many people make this fatal mistake in interpreting the Bible. Matthew 22:29, “Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.”
Galatians 4:29 plainly teaches what is meant in Romans 8:1 by the phrase “after the Spirit”...
Galatians 4:29, “But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.”
Carefully notice that the Bible says “born” in Galatians 4:29, which speaks of being born-again by the Spirit of God (John 1:12-13; John 3:1-7; 1st Peter 1:23). Notice the phrase “born after the Spirit.” Hence, those who have been “born” of the Spirit of God are those who walk “AFTER THE SPIRIT” of God. This has nothing to do with deciding to live a consecrated life, surrendering nor committing one's life to God to be saved. The Word of God plainly teaches that eternal life is a free gift, paid for clear and totally free by Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8-9). You don't give anything to to God to be saved; but rather, simply receive salvation by faith in the name of Jesus Christ (John 20:31). We are guilty SINNERS and Jesus is the SAVIOR! It's that simple.
So what Romans 8:1 is really teaching when viewed in light of Galatians 4:29 is...
“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk (are born) not after the flesh, but (are born) after the Spirit.”
As Dr. John R. Rice (1895-1980) used to teach, the best way to interpret the Bible is with the Bible. Those who are born after the Spirit are already eternally forgiven in Christ, having their sins washed away by the precious blood of Jesus (1st Peter 1:18-19).
Oh listen my friend, I don't care who you are or how deep in sin your life may be (or have gone), God wants to pardon you of all iniquities and cleanse your sins as white as snow...
Isaiah 1:18, “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”
Pastor Tyler J. Doka is corrupt in his theology. His plan of salvation “seems” okay, but I know something is very wrong with his mindset because he doesn't understand the great doctrine of ETERNAL LIFE! Eternal life and assurance of salvation are not two separate doctrines, they are one in the same! If you are saved you have eternal life and that is your assurance! The very idea that a saved person who doesn't keep the commandments of God could burn in Hell for one second, let alone for a much longer time period, is foreign to the Scriptures and goes totally contrary to everything the Scriptures teach!!!
Deuteronomy 33:27, “The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.” You cannot show me one verse in the Bible, that teaches a Christian is ever in danger of Hellfire! John 5:24, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.” In the preceding Bible verse we see three great PROMISES from God to those who BELIEVE on Christ:
They have everlasting life.
They shall not come into condemnation.
They have passed from death unto life.
If Pastor Tyler Doka and his church are correct—that sinful believers will be tormented in the Lake of Fire temporarily—then NONE of these three preceding promises could be honored by God. How could a person possess everlasting life if God sent them to Hell for awhile? How could such a partially damned person not come into condemnation? How could the Bible say that they have passed from death unto life if they are going to burn in Hell temporarily? Obviously, none of this could be true!
Let God be true, but every man a liar! No believer, regardless of how horrible a life they may live, can ever be in danger for even one second of going to Hell. If saved, always saved. Once saved, always saved! Romans 5:9, “Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.” Jesus' precious blood has washed every believer's sins away forever, so that we will never be in danger of suffering God's punishing hand of wrath!!!
Pastor Doka doesn't believe a Christian is in danger of “eternal” damnation, but he does believe that a Christian can suffer in Hell temporarily. Albeit, this is completely unbiblical. God knows that I have nothing personal against Pastor Doka, and up until today I had never heard of him, but I am on the side of truth alone.
What About 1st Corinthians 8:11?
Adherents of this heresy take the following Bible verse out of context...
1st Corinthians 8:11, “And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?”
They errantly ASSUME that the word “perish” means goes to Hell. There is nothing in this word nor passage that suggests going to Hell. The word “perish” simply means that their Christian life will be ruined. The word “perish” has multiple meanings in the New Testament. It can refer to physical death. 2nd Corinthians 4:16, “For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.” The word can also refer to the end of something. Colossians 2:20-22, “Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, (Touch not; taste not; handle not; Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men?”
The latter is what 1st Corinthians 8:11 means, if a believer gets caught up into false worship, it will destroy their testimony and usefulness for Christ. They will “perish” so to speak. This is exactly what is meant in the parable of the Sower and the Seeds in Luke 8:11-15. The seed is the Word of God according to verse 11. In verse 12, the seeds were eaten by birds (Satan) and no one was saved. In verses 13 and 14, the seeds fell on shallow soil, or were choked by adjacent weeds, and brought forth no fruit to perfection. They became fruitless Christians, useless, yet saved. I believe this is what 1st Corinthians 8:11 means by “perish.” 1st Corinthians chapter eight is simply teaching us that even though we may be mature in the Lord, having KNOWLEDGE (verse 1) of spiritual matters, a new baby believer who is ignorant of this knowledge might be hurt by our indulgences.
By “knowledge” (verse 1) Paul is specifically referring to the fact that there is only one God, and one Savior, and idols are all fake and of the Devil. Roman Catholicism comes to mind, a false religion centered around Mary worship and idolatrous statues of saints. It would be a sin against Christ for any Christian believer to show support for the Church of Rome, which could lead a baby believer to mistakenly conclude that Mary worship is acceptable. Mary worship is devil worship! Praying to Mary is an abomination!!! So if we were to show support for such a wicked organization as the Catholic church, it could destroy the faith of a weak brother or sister and lead them away from a mature Christian life.
Furthermore, the Bible directly contradicts the heresy that a believer can perish into Hell. We KNOW that it is impossible for a born-again believer to ever lose God's salvation. John 10:28, “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” Did you read that? A believer “SHALL NEVER PERISH”!
John 10:28, “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.”
THEY SHALL NEVER PERISH!
THEY SHALL NEVER PERISH!
THEY SHALL NEVER PERISH!
THEY SHALL NEVER PERISH!
And again we read in Romans 8:29-30, “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.” There is absolutely no way that a Christian could ever go to Hell, not for one second!!! Every believer has been predestinated by God to be conformed into Christ's image, for we have been “JUSTIFIED”... JUST-IF-I'D never sinned!!! It is ludicrous that anyone could believe that a Christian could ever go to Hell!!!
What About Romans 14:23?
Adherents of the heresy that a believer can go to Hell temporarily, take the following Bible verse out of context...
Romans 14:21-23, “It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak. Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth. And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.”
An unlearned Bible student might mistakenly conclude that a Christian can be “DAMNED” for not keeping God's commandments. However, please notice that the issue here is sin, not salvation. Whatsoever is not of faith is sin! Every believer sins every day of their life. The word “damned” here does not mean the Lake of Fire, it simply means that you are guilty of a sin. There is nothing in this Scripture passage which even remotely suggests going to Hell. We must never read into the Scriptures what they do not say!
As with the word “perish,” the word “damned” does not always refer to Hell. It is clear in the following passage of Scripture, that some believers were getting sick and prematurely dying, eating and drinking “damnation” to them self by taking the Lord's Supper lightly, being chastened of the Lord...
1st Corinthians 11:27-32, “Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.”
Carefully notice (lest there be any remaining doubt in your mind about the proper meaning of Romans 14:23) the phrase “THAT WE SHOULD NOT BE CONDEMNED WITH THE WORLD.” The lost world is going to Hell to be punished forever. This Bible passage is clear that the manner of God's chastisement is sickness and premature death. There is no suggestion of going to the Lake of Fire!
Heresies abound EVERYWHERE today! Heresies abound in the churches. Heresies abound in the religious seminars and Bible colleges. Heresy abounds on the internet. Heresies abound in the world. Satan is the god of this evil world! I highly suggest dear reader that you be VERY CAREFUL who you listen to concerning the Holy Bible! So what can we do? The answer is simple, anchor yourself to the unchanging King James Bible!!! Acts 17:11, “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” Search the Scriptures!!!
The following is some helpful commentary on Romans 14:23 by Dr. Oliver B. Greene...
“He that doubteth is damned if he eat . . . .”
This does not teach that if a believer eats meat, yet doubting whether it is right or wrong, he will be damned through the eating of that meat. Please do not accuse God of giving a salvation so weak and so cheap that a piece of meat could damn us. It simply means that the man is condemned of his own conscience “because he eateth not of faith”—or “because it is not of faith.” His act did not flow from his trust in Christ.

Amen, I totally agree! It is hard to imagine that anyone could reduce the priceless grace of God, so that even eating a piece of meat could land them in the Lake of Fire temporarily. The whole idea set forth by Pastor Tyler Doka, that a rebellious believer could spend time suffering in the Lake of Fire, is 100% of the Devil. God's grace wasn't cheap, it cost the heavenly Father His only begotten Son!
Biblical Judgment for Christians
Granted, Christians will be judged at the Judgment Seat of Christ, and many will face the terror of the Lord (2nd Corinthians 5:9-11), but there will be no fear of eternal damnation; only embarrassment, shame, rebuke, tears, chastisement and loss of rewards (1st Corinthians 3:11-15; 1st Thessalonians 4:6; Romans 12:19-21; James 4:12; Matthew 12:36; Matthew 7:1-2; Ecclesiastes 12:14). 1st Corinthians 11:31, “For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.” Clearly, that means if we fail to judge our self, God will have to judge us at the Judgment Seat of Christ.
In other words, if we don't take care of the problem, God will! If we don't make things right with our brother, God will! If we don't repay unpaid debts, God will! If we don't repent as believers and walk in the Spirit, then we will face the hot displeasure of the Lord on judgment day. Psalms 6:1, “O LORD, rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.” The unsaved will stand trial in criminal court at the Great White Throne of Judgment; whereas believers will stand account in civil court, risking only loss of rewards, at the Judgment Seat of Christ.
