Psalms 102:25, “Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands."The above fascinating piece of scripture from Jeremiah is clearly indicating that there was a time on earth where ‘there was no man’ but there were cities and wildlife. The cities were ‘broken down’ at the presence of the LORD and His fierce anger. The mountains trembled, the earth became void, the sky became dark – but there were cities and so forth on earth prior to mankind, and something happened which made the LORD very very angry, causing Him to render the earth ‘without form and void'.Jeremiah 4:23-28, “I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light. I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly. I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled. I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger. For thus hath the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end. For this shall the earth mourn, and the heavens above be black: because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and will not repent, neither will I turn back from it.”
Who lived in these cities?
The above scripture is referring to Satan before he rebelled (when he was known as Lucifer). We can see that Lucifer dwelt upon the earth prior to rebelling against God, as he states he will ‘ascend above the heights of the clouds;’. Lucifer’s rebellion against God was to seek EQUALITY with God, and it was this sin which caused Lucifer (who became Satan) to have his physical body destroyed (Ezekiel 28:13-19). Lucifer rebelled along with approximately one third of the angels, who, due to their sin became instead of angels, demons (devils).Isaiah 14:14, “I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.”
Prior to mankind, the earth and the cities were inhabited by angels. This was also the time when dinosaurs inhabited the earth.
Destruction of the earth
‘For thus hath the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end. For this shall the earth mourn, and the heavens above be black: because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and will not repent, neither will I turn back from it.’ Jeremiah 4:28
We can see from the above scripture, that the LORD caused the earth to mourn, the heavens (sky) to be black, i.e. no daylight, but the LORD would not make a full end, but rather, bring a form of restoration. Let’s go back to Genesis
Genesis 1:1, ‘In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth’
Yep, indeed, at the beginning, God the heaven i.e. the sky, the stars, the atmosphere, the visible universe and the earth.
Genesis 1:2, ‘And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.’
In the above text, you can see that ‘was’ is italicized When the King James bible translators translated the bible from the original Masoretic and Greek texts, an italicization indicates something which is not specifically in the original texts, but is understood. This is how honest and accurate the King Bible translation is.
When we look at the Hebrew word for was, which is correctly italicized by the King James bible translators, we find the following:
Hayah - to be, become, come to pass, exist, happen, fall out
That is, the heaven and the earth were created in Genesis 1:1, but then in Genesis 1:2, the earth became without form and void.
Something happened from when the earth and the heavens were created to an EVENT causing the the earth to become without form and void. Satan and his rebellion, as demonstrated from the scriptures above, is what happened!Carrying on with Genesis
It is clear therefore, that following on from this, Genesis 1:2-19 refers to the earth being re-made – rather, remodeled, Genesis 1:19 taking up to the fourth day of remodeling, and from Genesis 1:20 up to Genesis 1:31 which is up to the sixth day, when things are created (rather than remodeled) such as whales*, and man.
The 'six days of creation' are therefore referring to the time after the angels living on earth, up to when the earth was rendered uninhabitable by the LORD, the six days being when the LORD then re-made the earth, and mankind was created. So we know
So we know from the Bible, from scripture in Jeremiah and Genesis, that the earth existed a long time before mankind existed, and that there were cities on the earth, inhabited by angels. This was the time when dinosaurs were also on the earth (fossil findings can be an accurate representation of science, unlike evolution which is a theory with no basis on correctly observable facts, and the inaccuracy of radiocarbon dating, which will be covered in other articles).
Indeed, the idea, which some may have propagated, that dinosaurs roamed the earth at the same time as mankind does not make sense, and not only from a scriptural perspective. Dinosaurs are beautiful but fearful creatures, and mankind would would have been no match for them, but angels are far more powerful than men (2 Kings 19:35) - one angel slew 185,000 Assyrian people in one night! Certainly angels would have been able to live with dinosaurs easier than humans could.
Sin existed Prior to Adam and Eve
We also know from the scriptures that it was Satan who tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden as the serpent (Revelation 20:2), and that sin therefore existed with Satan prior to mankind being created, as Satan (previously Lucifer before his rebellion) and the fallen angels (devils), who, becoming evil through sin, also existed prior to mankind (see also Ezekiel 28:13)
To conclude
We know that the earth is indeed very old, and was populated with creatures, dinosaurs, and cities where angels lived, prior to mankind. When Satan rebelled and sought EQUALITY with God, the LORD in his anger destroyed the cities, trembled the mountains, the earth, and brought darkness upon the earth – like a major, sudden extinction, something like archaeological/fossil evidence would suggest happened in the past.
The LORD then at a later stage re-made the earth, and created mankind to live in the garden of Eden.Psalms 102:25, “Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands.”
The earth is indeed very old, perhaps as old as scientists estimate, but mankind is very young indeed.
From mankind leaving Eden to be on earth as we are now, from doing a bible study, would suggest that mankind, as we are now, is something in the region of 6,000 years old.
But the earth and the universe itself is far older.*Please see article for a quick look at whales.
