For When I Am Weak, Then Am I Strong
by David J. Stewart | February 2020
Song Of Solomon 2:5-6, “Stay me with flagons, comfort me with apples: for I am sick of love. His left hand is under my head, and his right hand doth embrace me.”
Thank you kindly for saying that brother. I sincerely believe that one of the reasons why God has allowed me to stay in horrible pain all the time, and the surgeons have not been able to help me over the past 16 years, is to keep me humble, so that He can bless my ministry labors in an uncommon way. Pastor Jack Hyles once said in a sermon that: “Unshakable faith comes from having your faith shaken!” I never forgot that. I read elsewhere that: “Faith is like film, it develops in the dark!” What saith the Scripture? ...
2nd Corinthians 12:7-10, “And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.”
As much as I hate being in bodily pain all the time, and being lonely without a wife, and being frustrated that my life is anything but "normal" from what it once was, I can see how God is using my afflictions, pain and loneliness for the cause of Christ, and as Paul, I rejoice in being weak enough for God to be strong through me to help others. Pastor Dwight L. Moody said: “God had no children too weak, but a great many too strong to make use of.” Sometimes I get frustrated that my life has had more than its share of problems, loss and suffering, but then the blessed Holy Spirit impresses upon my heart as if to say: “David, that is why I am using you more than I am most preachers; therefore, you have to suffer more!” That is the silver lining in the dark storm clouds that have overshadowed my life, especially for the past 16 years. So with all humility I give God all the credit, praise and glory for anything good that has, is, or will ever be accomplished through my humble earthly labors for Jesus Christ. The only good thing about me is Jesus!
