Four Needed Ingredients In Our Life
By David J. Stewart | August 2014
Proverbs 2:4, “If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures.”
The Bible teaches that every believer needs four things; namely...
- WISDOM
- UNDERSTANDING
- KNOWLEDGE
- FEAR
We read in the Old Testament of the King James Bible in Proverbs 2:1-5...
Proverbs 2:1-5, “My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.”
Most believers fail to understand the TREASURE that we have in the Holy Bible. The Bible teaches us that we need wisdom. Proverbs 4:7, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” The Bible tells us how to obtain wisdom, understanding, knowledge and fear. It all begins by getting the Word of God in us. How do we get the Word into us? Notice that Proverbs 2:1 mentions RECEIVING God's Words and then a couple verses later we are told to HIDE God's Word. What's the difference? We can receive God's Word by reading the Bible, listening to the Bible, hearing Bible-preaching, meditating upon the Bible; but the only way to HIDE God's Word is by MEMORIZING!
You never know what a day may bring forth. You could be in a situation where you don't have a Bible with you. There are many situations that often arise, where you need God's wisdom but don't have a Bible with you. You might be sitting on an airplane and someone asks you questions about God. If you have memorized Scriptures, then you can help them with THE WORD OF GOD THAT YOU HAVE IN YOU!!! Every Christian believer should memorize Scriptures on a regular basis, even if just a verse here and there. You will memorize Scriptures and then forget them over time. I continually quote Scriptures in my mind, meditating upon Scriptures that I've committed to memory, and if I cannot remember the passage completely, then I'll go look it up to make sure I have that Scripture correct. Two of the best chapters to memorize are Psalms 119, which is all about the Word of God; and the book of Proverbs. Psalms 119 and Proverbs apply to every other Scripture in the Bible. They are excellent passages to memorize from.
I also associate Scriptures with helpful things to help me remember. For example: I always remember Acts 20:20 about the apostle Paul going door-to-door soul-winning by calling it “a believer's 20/20 vision.” I remember Ecclesiastes 9:11 about time and chance happening to all for obvious reasons.. the 911 attacks! Using this method by thinking of something to associate helpful Scriptures with will aid remembering. Do we really understand the treasure that we have in the Holy Bible?
God has told us the future in the Bible, sharing with us what He intends to do and when. Biblical prophecy is history written in advance. Did you know that 29% of the Bible is prophecy! What an awesome God! God enjoys when we fellowship with Him. So if you don't enjoy fellowshipping with God, then enjoy that God enjoys your fellowship. The Lord deserves our obedience, worship and praise. Praise is bragging on God for what He does. Worship is bragging on God for Who He is.
Many people in this world, for one reason or another (especially in Communist countries like North Korea), don't have a Bible. You ought to thank God for your trustworthy King James Bible. My friend, do you have any idea how precious of a treasure that the Bible truly is. We have God's Word. We have the complete Bible. Old Testament saints would have literally given an arm or an eye to have the complete Bible that we have today, yet the average Christian watches television far more than they abide in the Holy Bible (John 15:1-5). There are 10,080 minutes in each week. Did you read the treasure of the Scriptures for even one minute?
Oh, how we all need to spend more time in the Bible. Even if you just read a verse or two each morning to give you something to direct your thinking through the day, that would be better than nothing. And don't make the grave mistake of substituting “Our Daily Bread” and other religious publications instead of the Bible. We all need the undiluted Words of God daily!!! The average person watches TV daily, but reads their Bible weekly only at church.
Here's a motto to live by...
- GET THE WORD IN
- WORK THE TRUTH OUT
Please notice that the word “if” appears three times in Proverbs 2:1-4. God's promise of knowledge and understanding are CONDITIONAL upon us receiving God's Words, hiding His commandments with us, inclining thine ear to the Lord's Word, crying for knowledge, lifting up our voice to God for understanding. “IF” we seek these things as if we were seeking for great riches and treasures, “THEN” the Bible says in Proverbs 2:5, “THEN SHALT THOU UNDERSTAND THE FEAR OF THE LORD, AND FIND THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD.” This is a promise from God.
God loves when we're dependent upon Him. There are 86,400 seconds in each day. Have you thanked God with just one of them? There are 10,080 minutes in a week. Did you pray for anyone for even one minute this week? Prayer is asking for ourselves, intercession for others and long-term petitions to God. We are not commanded to GROW as believers, but we are commanded to OBEY. If you don't pray and read the Bible, then you are telling God that you don't need His help and can do it alone.
The unsaved heathen world are idiotic, insane without God. Romans 3:18 says that “THERE IS NO FEAR OF GOD BEFORE THEIR EYES.” Americans sat back idle while the U.S. Supreme Court removed God's Word and prayer from our classrooms in 1963, and then like idiots wonder decades later why the country has gone totally insane, selfish and falling apart. It's really not that hard to figure out my friend. Sin always undermines a nation!
The Bible says that IF we want wisdom and understanding and seek for it as if it were money and treasure, THEN we shall find the knowledge (truths) of God and understand the fear of God. The Holy Bible is yours to diligently study. There's lots of old school, fundamental, Baptist, Bible-preaching, online and on this website for you to listen to. Turn off the TV. Take a break from the electronic gadgets. Proverbs 18:1, “Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.”
Proverbs 2:4-5, “If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.”
