Wisdom Verses Talent
By David J. Stewart
Proverbs 4:7, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.”
One of the greatest sermons I've ever heard is “WITH ALL THY GETTING GET WISDOM” by Dr. Jack Hyles (1926-2001). Here are some excellent life-changing principles from this timeless sermon...
Talent runs from wisdom, but wisdom always seeks talent.
Talent seeks to counsel, but wisdom seeks counsel.
Talent seeks applause, but wisdom applauds.
Talent changes truth, but character and wisdom are changed by truth.
Talent puts beauty on the face, but wisdom makes a beautiful face.
Talent charts a path, but wisdom travels a proven path.
Talent moves you toward the top, but wisdom pushes you to the top.
Talent yearns for praise, but wisdom yearns to praise.
Talent yearns for love, but wisdom yearns to love.
Talent says, “I want to be loved,” but wisdom says “I want to love.”
Talent says “I don't want to fail,” but wisdom says “I want to prepare and I won't fail.”
Talent is trying to find someone to tell what you know, but wisdom is trying to find someone to tell you what they know.
Talent is fear of failure, but wisdom is fear of lack of preparation.
Talent is an impromptu speech, but wisdom is a planned, studied, presentation
Talent uses, but wisdom is used.
Talent makes daily decisions, but wisdom makes lifelong principles to make your decisions for you.
Talent rules subjects, but wisdom rules rulers.
Talent loves that which is loving or lovable, but wisdom loves that which God commands us to love.
Talent puts beauty on the eye, but wisdom puts beauty in the eye.
Talent rejoices now and pays later, but wisdom pays now and rejoices later.
Talent acquires, wisdom possesses.
Talent is concerned about the grade on the report card, wisdom is concerned about the study.
Talent rejoices about recital, but wisdom rejoices about practice when you're alone.
Talent rejoices in the dining room, but wisdom rejoices in the kitchen.
Talent spends tomorrow today, but wisdom saves today until tomorrow.
Talent runs the 100-yard dash, but wisdom runs the marathon.
Talent seeks thrills, but wisdom seeks priorities.
Talent is inspirational, but wisdom is intentional.
Talent is loyal to feeling, but wisdom is loyal to principles.
Talent says “It seems to me,” but wisdom says “If God has spoken.”
Talent says “This is my opinion,” but wisdom says “This is God's opinion.”
Talent sees through it's own eyes, but wisdom sees through God's eyes.
Talent cannot stand alone but does, wisdom can stand alone but doesn't.
Talent is advertising, but wisdom is the merchandise.
Talent is the sign, but wisdom is the store.
Talent moves, but wisdom stays.
Talent seeks beauty, but wisdom is beauty.
Talent loves his attractive friend, but wisdom loves his unattractive sister.
Talent spends the future, but wisdom prepares for the future.
If you love your school friend more than your mom and dad, you're as wicked as the Devil.
Talent performs on the stage, but wisdom built the stage.
Talent seeks attention, but wisdom pays attention.
Talent travels on a highway, but wisdom builds the highway.
Talent seeks a grade, but wisdom seeks knowledge.
Talent is the desert, but wisdom is the vegetable.
Talent works for a diploma, but wisdom works for the truth.
Talent seeks prosperity, but wisdom seeks success.
Talent is the facade, but wisdom is the substance.
Talent is the prancing pony, but wisdom is the plowing mule.
Talent gets a job, but wisdom keeps the job.
Talent is the muddy pond, but wisdom is the flowing stream.
Talent starts, but wisdom finishes.
Talent operates on instinct, but wisdom operates on schedule.
Talent is interested in how it turns out, but wisdom is concerned how it turns in.
Talent is a pretty boy, but wisdom is a good boy.
Talent is popularity kid, but wisdom is a working kid.
Talent is convenience, but wisdom is conviction.
Proverbs 4:7, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.”
Thank God for America's faithful preachers and God-fearing, soul-winning, Christians.
It is tragic that America's children are being indoctrinated by a bunch of kooks, quacks and queers through television, public schools, Harry Potter books, GLSEN, et cetera. I'm not a gay-basher; but I am obligated as a God-fearing Christian to speak out against all forms of evil in society. Character doesn't just happen, it needs to be instilled in children. How can a child with a lesbian, New Age, liberal-minded, Communist-loving, teacher turn out right for God??? No wonder sin, crime and insanity have overrun the United States! The Bible commands us all to seek wisdom... WITH ALL OUR GETTING! Wisdom is the principle thing, not talent. If there's one thing that our nation's children (and adults) need today it is WISDOM. Wisdom seeks God and truth. Wisdom seeks character and principle.
You don't get wisdom from watching Jerry Springer or Law And Order's sex-perverted shows, you get passion and entertainment instead. Americans are more concerned with who's going to win the NBA championship or the Superbowl than they are acquiring truth. People spend more time reading the filthy Esquire and Self magazines filled with Hollywood whores, when you ought to go read books about the lives of great men of God like Dwight L. Moody, Billy Sunday, John Bunyan, David Livingston and Charles H. Spurgeon. Talent seeks attention, but wisdom pays attention! The average American today is a walking moron. The average person couldn't tell you what their First Amendment rights are if their life depended on it. You should know the First Amendment: the right to RELIGION, SPEECH, PRESS, freedom to PEACEABLY ASSEMBLE and to PETITION OUR GOVERNMENT. Do you know the Ten Commandments? If not, memorize them from Exodus chapter 20!
Every Christian ought to have two big days in their life. First, the day that we are saved. And second, the day that we surrender to serve God. At salvation, we know that we have God; but at surrender, God knows that He has us. Surrendering is not required for salvation; but surrendering is required if we are to be happy in the Lord.
Ladies and gentleman, America is going to Hell by design, because we've allowed a small group of devil-serving, arrogant, atheists, kooks, quacks, liars, homosexuals, pedophiles, thieves, religious nuts, Communists and God-haters to take control of our nation. The only reason why they are succeeding is because America has abandoned Christianity. The wicked are now in control of government, newsmedia, television, radio, the courts, entertainment and all walks of life. A lot of Americans are finally walking up to what's really going on (a takeover police state), but they are spiritually darkened without God, and so they are spinning their wheels going nowhere. America's ONLY hope is preaching preachers! Without repentance we are doomed as a nation.
There's only one living God, and He's the God of the Bible. The Muslim religion is fake, fabricated by Muhammad 1,371 years ago in 632 AD. It is now 2013. Muhammad worshipped the moon, which is why Islam is centered in worship of the moon. It's hard to imagine that anyone would adopt such a crazy and easily debunked false religion as Islam. See, Muhammad Verses Jesus Christ. Oh, listen my friend, the God Who is wisdom loves you and sent His only begotten Son into the world to die for your sins and mine. Jesus paid it all! The beginning of wisdom is to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.
